saved_tabs=&#8221;all&#8221;]2018 was a year of planned financial stabilization for IIASA following a challenging year in 2017.\u00a0Total income grew by 7% from \u20ac21.1 million in 2017 to \u20ac22.7 million in 2018, with total expenditure declining marginally from \u20ac23.0 million to \u20ac22.6 million.\u00a0At \u20ac17.4 million, almost 80% of the institute\u2019s total spending in 2018 was on research and scientific services, while it was also possible to consolidate spending on administration services and infrastructure.\u00a0IIASA operated within its financial means in 2018, with the positive change in net assets serving to strengthen fiscal reserves.[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;3.25&#8243; saved_tabs=&#8221;all&#8221;]<p><strong>Donations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iiasa.ac.at\/web\/home\/about\/giving\/yssp_fund\/ysspfund.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">YSSP Fund<\/a> provides funds for a scholarship that is awarded to promising young researchers without National Member Organization support, often from developing countries, to participate in the IIASA three-month Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP). Generous donations from IIASA supporters enabled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iiasa.ac.at\/web\/home\/about\/giving\/yssp_fund\/recipients.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">seven exceptional young scientists<\/a> to participate in the 2018 YSSP.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iiasa.at\/web\/home\/about\/giving\/Women_in_Science_Fund.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Women in Science Fund<\/a> is to provide a platform of financial support to IIASA women connected to science at all career levels. Conceived by the IIASA Women in Science Club, the fund offers different avenues of support and relies solely on donations to fulfill its mission.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iiasa.ac.at\/web\/home\/about\/giving\/de-Janosi-Fellowship.en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Peter E. de J\u00e1nosi Postdoctoral Fellowship<\/a> fund, set up in honor of former IIASA director, Dr. de J\u00e1nosi, offers selected postgraduate students the opportunity to participate in the IIASA Postdoctoral Program.<\/p>\n<p>A donation to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iiasa.ac.at\/web\/home\/about\/giving\/Howard_Raiffa_Fellows_Program.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Howard Raiffa Fellows Program in Decision Science<\/a> preserves the legacy of the first IIASA director and brings distinguished scientists in this field to IIASA to work on the global problems addressed by the institute\u2019s research programs.<\/p>\n<p>The institute continues to receive generous support through the non-governmental organization <a href=\"http:\/\/www.friendsofiiasa.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Friends of IIASA<\/a>, which enables US residents to make tax deductible donations to the institute.<\/p>\n<p>IIASA thanks all for their generosity in 2018 and is grateful for their commitment and belief in the mission of the institute.<\/p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The institute\u2019s annual budget in 2018 was \u20ac22.7 million, of which over 53% was from research funding agencies in member countries in Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe.
